Grayson Co. Fire
The
shelter building is a total loss, but the detached annex (which
was under construction) had been delayed due to lack of funds.
The shelter building will be demolished beginning March 22; nothing
inside is salvageable. It will be dismantled by city employees.
They hope to resume work on the annex as soon as funds are available.
Opening date is set for June 2004.
The
city is seeking an empty local warehouse to store building supplies
and cages/crates; they should have that location secured by March
26. When that location is found, they will have a place to store
food and supplies.
The
shelter grounds currently house 7 dogs which are in outdoor runs.
All their cats were lost in the fire. A volunteer is looking into
establishing a temporary cattery in one of her outbuildings.
Because
the city had delayed building the annex due to lack of funds,
Lindsay tells me that right now, the most urgent need is for money
to start that building process. Donations should be made to Leitchfield
City Hall, but clearly marked on the envelope
and check for the animal shelter or county humane society.
